 National Partnership for Improving Teacher Quality

​The Smarter Schools National Partnership for Improving Teacher Quality has at its heart the belief that teacher quality is the single greatest in-school influence on student engagement and outcomes. It is a five year program and within the National Partnership there are 12 Facilitation Reforms and 6 Reward Reforms. Independent sector initiatives under the National Partnership on Improving Teacher Quality mostly facilitated by the Independent Schools Centre for Excellence (ISCE),  have already included

  1. Leadership training on using data to improve student outcomes
  2. Leadership courses for schools involved in the National Partnerships for Literacy Numeracy and Low Socio-Economic Status Communities
  3. Subsidised leadership programs for new and emerging Principals, middle leaders and senior executives
  4. Teacher Accreditation Grants to allow schools to support teachers seeking higher levels of accreditation. Teacher Accreditation School Support Grants to assist schools with teacher accreditation processes at all levels of the NSW Institute of Teachers and the Independent Schools Teacher Accreditation Authority.
  5. Internship Grants for schools in regional and remote locations or with high Aboriginal enrolments, and schools wishing to have an Aboriginal intern or an intern in Mathematics, Science or TAS.
  6. Financial Support for teacher professional development, including Course Subsidies and Regional and Remote Schools Travel Assistance.
  7. Grants to build relationships: 
    • between schools and Aboriginal communities to build capacity and cultural awareness;
    • between independent schools to develop teacher quality. 
  8. Professional Exchange and Mentoring Grants promoting professional support between individual teachers and between paraprofessionals.
  9. Support grants for Paraprofessionals in schools.
