Under the Commonwealth Government Targeted Programs assistance to independent schools is provided to improve the educational outcomes and opportunities for identified students. The Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW) has responsibility for administering the Literacy, Numeracy and Special Learning Needs Program (LNSLN Program) for independent schools in NSW.
Funding under the LNSLN Program – Students with Disabilities is limited and is not intended to be the only support for students with disabilities. The grant contribution is made to assist schools with the education of students with disabilities in primary or secondary schools that provide an educational program designed to meet individual needs.
Schools are eligible for program funding in respect to students with disabilities (as defined by the Commonwealth Government) enrolled at that school, where the school is eligible for general recurrent funding for the targeted student/s.
Funding is targeted at schools with students from K - Year 12 who are educationally disadvantaged in terms of their access to and participation in school programs and their learning outcomes because of their disability.
For the purposes of determining eligibility, a student with a disability is one who is attending school and who has been assessed by a person with relevant qualifications as having intellectual, sensory, physical, language, mental health or multiple disability or autism to a degree that satisfies the NSW Department of Education criteria for eligibility as a student with a disability.
