Guided by the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (2008) all states and territories joined with the Australian Government to develop an Australian Curriculum.
During 2011 and 2012, the Board of Studies NSW developed new K–10 syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science (incorporating Science and Technology K–6) and History that incorporate the agreed Australian curriculum content. The NSW K–10 syllabuses documents can accessed here.
To support independent schools during the familiarisation process and in preparing for implementation from 2014, AIS has developed a suite of professional learning courses and consultancies, both face to face and online. Specific details about how to access the right support for your school is available here. Details regarding the implementation timeline can be found here.
To support schools and teachers with subject specific implementation, of the NSW Syllabuses incorporating the Australian curriculum AIS has begun coordinating a series of projects in English, Mathematics, Science and History. Resources from these projects may be accessed using the subject-specific buttons.
In all remaining K–10 learning areas, schools are required to continue to use existing NSW syllabuses. Any decisions about adopting the Australian curriculum, developing syllabuses, and planning subsequent implementation will be made only after thorough consultation with NSW stakeholders.
Teachers and schools seeking further details about the NSW Syllabuses incorporating the Australian curriculum should contact Kelly Borg at the AIS on (02) 9299 2845 or use the 'Contact Us' link at the foot of this page.
