Practitioner Research

Practitioner research is an area of professional learning which can assist teachers to become more engaged with research to support their own learning and ultimately impact positively on student learning experiences.

Consensus suggests that the "...most effective forms of professional development are those that are directly related to teachers’ instructional practice, intensive and sustained, integrated with school-reform efforts, and that actively engage teachers in collaborative professional communities." (Wei et al., 2009, p. 39)

There are a number of frameworks and structures which support effective practitioner research. AISNSW examples include School Based Research Projects and the Research to Practice Initiative. In recognition of the efficacy of research as an approach to enhancing professional learning, AIS continues to promote and support educator engagement in research.
