Through Commonwealth Government funding, AISNSW provides the services of special education consultants to those NSW independent schools enrolling students with disabilities. These services include assisting schools with:
- The development and implementation of individual plans: Special education consultants work collaboratively with school principals, staff, students and parents to develop an appropriate individual plan for each student with a disability. These individual plans identify a student's needs and outline adjustments and procedures for implementing appropriate strategies to maximise student access and participation and the provision of support services.
- Advice with regard to relevant legislation pertaining to students with disabilities: AISNSW provides guidance to school staff to assist in their understanding of the ramifications of legislation with regard to enrolment of and planning for, students with disabilities and in the ability of teachers to efficiently and effectively assess the learning needs of and outcomes for these students.
