HSC 2009 - Syllabus Amendments
Please note that the syllabuses in all Japanese courses (except for the Beginners' course) have been amended and will be effective for the HSC course and examination in 2009. Click on the Stage 6 syllabuses link on the top right-hand corner of this page and download the 'Revised Syllabus' for the course relevant to your school.

The Japan Foundation Sydney provides a prize donation program to schools which stage any kind of Japanese related events such as Speech contests, Japanese Cultural Festivals, Japanese Art Exhibitions etc. It supports the schools by providing them with donation prizes such as books, magazines, stationery and small goods.

Art speaks Japanese
Teachers may be interested in a comprehensive resource kit developed by the Japan Foundation and the Art Gallery of New south Wales to support the visit to the Gallery's permanent collection by Japanese Language students. The kit includes tasks for Years 4-12, colour photo panels of art work, audio material and teachers' notes.

2008 - Consular visit to your school
Your school is invited to request a visit from the Japanese consulate, cost free. The standard presentation usually consists of a general introduction to Japan, introduction to Japanese food using food models, kimono demonstration and traditional wooden toy games. The session usually takes about an hour. To apply schools should write or fax on school letterhead to: School Visit Program, Information Section, Consulate-General of Japan, GPO Box 4125, Sydney 2001, tel 9231.3455, fax 9221.8807. Please include the number and year of students in the group, special areas on interest, reason for requesting the visit and convenient dates/times.

The Japan Foundations, Sydney newsletter, Omusubi, is now a web magazine. As the newsletter will no longer be sent to schools, teachers are encouraged to subscribe to receive a monthly notice about the magazine which contains links to event information and various articles.
