Employment Relations Minimize

The AIS has for many years represented the independent sector in the negotiation of awards and agreements with unions.

We have also represented the sector in discussions on employment matters with a range of statutory authorities, including the Ombudsman, the Commission for Children and Young People and the Department of Industrial Relations.

Member schools have been provided with advice on a range of employment matters, including:

  • industrial relations
  • human resource management
  • compliance
  • legal matters

Should schools find themselves in dispute with employees, we are able to assist by negotiating a resolution. We do this by identifying the options, followed by an assessment of the risks involved and then advising on procedural fairness.

AIS staff have many years of experience in negotiating with unions or other employee advisors and have experience in appearing before the Industrial Relations Commission and other courts or tribunals.

The AIS takes a proactive approach to employment relations by conducting briefings for heads, bursars and senior staff from member schools on current employment issues.

These briefings have included topics on Child Protection, OH&S, Award Interpretation, Duty of Care, Contracts, and the like.

Member schools also have access to a very comprehensive website with legal advice, draft policies, contracts and compliance documentation.

Our experienced staff are on call to assist schools as soon as an issue arises.
