Australian Government Numeracy in the Middle Years of Schooling Initiative The project involves teachers within one metropolitan cluster and one regional cluster. The teachers will be trained and supported to implement a whole school approach to improve numeracy outcomes of students in middle years at risk of not achieving national benchmarks in numeracy. There are three main components of the program: a framework of growth points which provides a means to understand how the mathematical thinking of young children develops a one-to-one interview process which maps the progress of individual students against the framework a professional development plan designed to assist teachers to support students in the development of their mathematical thinking The teachers involved will be trained and supported to use the assessment data to improve teaching and learning practices and students’ numeracy outcomes.
