National Youth Tobacco Free Day
National Youth Tobacco Free Day (YTFD) will be celebrated on March 19 this year. It is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of tobacco as a health and social issue among young people. In 2010 YTFD aims to highlight the cost of smoking and encourage young people to think of other things to spend their money on. Young people are invited to visit www.OxyGen.org.au where they can win an array of prizes including apparel signed by the Hilltop Hoods, iTunes cards and voucher for clothing by playing the Scarey Maths game and registering their details. SPANS 2010
The NSW Schools Physical Activity and Nutrition Survey (SPANS) 2010 is being conducted in Term 1 2010 by NSW Health and the University of Sydney. The research project will collect data from students in Years K, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 about their physical activity and nutrition behaviours. The findings will enhance our understanding of behavioural patterns in these two crucial health areas and help inform subsequent approaches to health promotion and education. SPANS is a valuable research project and the 2010 data will allow comparisons to be made to data collected in previous projects, including SPANS 2004. It is hoped that fourteen independent schools in NSW will take part in the research.
Healthy Eating Posters - free to schools
The NSW Healthy Kids School Canteen Association in conjunction with NSW Health and in consultation with schools students, has designed two healthy eating posters which are available free to schools. The posters are large and colourful and would look great in the school canteen or a school common area. One poster promotes fruit and vegetables and the other promotes the benefits of a balanced diet. The posters complement the Fresh Tastes @ School Canteen Strategy. Should you wish to obtain free copies of these posters please contact Pam Bagshaw at AIS on 02 9299 2845 or pbagshaw@aisnsw.edu.au To view the posters click here   read more...
