EARLY LITERACY

The Early Literacy Project is a comprehensive professional learning package designed to support schools with the explicit and systematic teaching of literacy skills.

The components of the Early Literacy Project include:

  • School-based Professional Learning
  • Online Self-Paced Learning
  • In-Class Instructional Coaching
  • Access to the Early Screening Tool App- Literacy (ESTA-L)
  • Parent Workshops

The project, which takes place over a school year, is facilitated by an education consultant with expertise in literacy. Schools interested in learning more about the Early Literacy Project for 2019 can contact Student Services on (02) 9299 284.

ESTA-L has been rolled out to independent schools participating in the Phase 2 NSW Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan and in the AISNSW Early Literacy Project. Further feedback from these schools will assist AISNSW to refine the app during 2018. From 2019, schools will be able to access ESTA-L as one component of the Early Literacy Project.

ESTA-L is a practical tool created to assist teachers determine the acquisition of essential phonological awareness and phonics skills critical for students’ literacy learning in the early years from Kindergarten to Year 2.

Produced by the AISNSW Student Services team, the ESTA-L tool provides a seamless, paper-free, time-saving technology that quickly assesses and instantly tracks individual student and whole class performance.

The app is quick and simple to use, requiring only a phone or tablet. Individual student, whole class or whole school data can easily be manipulated using the specially designed portal to inform classroom instruction and monitor student progress.
