The AISNSW Pathways and Partnerships Team is supporting educators to equip students with the skills needed for life beyond school.

The range of pathways available within and beyond Australia’s schooling system has become increasingly diverse with more young people choosing flexible routes from school into further education, training and employment.

The AISNSW Pathways and Partnerships team works with schools to support their students to make choices that build on their strengths and passions, allowing them to flourish at school and beyond. In response to more recent rapid changes to students' options in school and post school, the team has created the AISNSW Pathways and Partnerships Guide.

Students need to adapt to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

AISNSW Head of Teaching and Learning Kelly Borg said that disruptions to the workforce, education structures, and broader society across the globe that have taken place over the past few months have highlighted the importance of career development and education for young people along with agility and nous organisations require to adapt.

"This experience has allowed both teachers and students to use their enterprise skills, as they respond to challenges and opportunities. These circumstances have demonstrated that a continued focus on skill development is essential,” Kelly said.

"Schools need to ensure that students possess the skills to adapt, innovate, problem-solve, communicate and present, and consider new approaches to career development.  I wonder how many new career opportunities have been discovered through these recent circumstances."

AISNSW Head: Teaching and Learning Kelly Borg says continued focus on skill development is essential.

As schools and society, in general, continue to grapple with how the current disruption will impact ways of operating, in the short term many universities and tertiary providers are producing resources to address the shifts. The Pathways and Partnerships Guide provides an overview of the offerings available to schools and students. It includes links to events and timely information such as:

  • university admissions updates
  • upcoming webinars
  • access to virtual campus tours
  • virtual careers fairs and work experience support.

The Pathways and Partnerships Guide will be updated regularly to keep schools informed of new information and support available to them.

With National Careers Week taking place between 18 and 24 May, it is a great time to explore the online opportunities available for schools to spark conversations with students about navigating their future.
