The AISNSW Community Cohesion team has piloted a new approach to delivering professional learning to our school communities.

The Tandem Learning Initiative involves an offering of Professional Learning to teachers and school staff, followed by working with targeted students to deliver bespoke workshops aligned with school goals.

The most recent partnership was with the Australian Islamic College Sydney, where the Community Cohesion team in collaboration with Together for Humanity facilitated a strengths based, experiential workshop with a focus on “Identity & Resilience” to 111 Year 7 students.

One of the highlights from the workshop was the transformative “Tree of Life” activity which explores and celebrates the diverse roots and branches that make up each individual’s identity.

Through guided reflection and interactive exercises, the students are encouraged to map out their personal strengths, values, and experiences to share their own stories and discover the interconnectedness among their peers.

“The identity tree helped me to understand who I really am. It helped us to understand our community. Your roots & heritage are the things that are able to help you. The roots are the things that influence our whole identity – it gives us stability”. (Student reflection)
