Welcome back for 2024! This year will be another very exciting year in NSW Curriculum Reform, with 35 syllabuses across K-12 being released for public consultation and 29 being released throughout the year in final version. Please refer to the syllabus release schedule for further details.

NESA Syllabus Consultation Term 1, 2024

You are invited to 'Have Your Say' on a range of NESA K-6 and 7-10 draft syllabuses during Term One, 2024.

AISNSW would love to hear your thoughts on these draft syllabuses. We use your suggestions and comments to shape the feedback we provide directly to NESA on behalf of the diverse schools of the Independent sector of NSW.

If you would like to contribute to the development of these syllabuses by providing valuable feedback, we will be holding focus groups via Zoom across a range of dates during the consultation period. Please select your focus group dates and times via this link.

The ‘Have your say’ periods for syllabuses will be:

Monday 26 February– Monday 8 April 2024: first draft syllabuses

  • Agriculture Technology 7–10
  • Aquatic Technology 7–10 (previously known as Marine and Aquaculture Technology)
  • Engineering Technology 7–10

Monday 26 February – Monday 11 March 2024: second draft syllabuses

  • Creative Arts K–6
  • HSIE K–6
  • PDHPE K–6
  • Science and Technology K–6
  • Geography 7–10
  • History 7–10
  • PDHPE 7–10
  • Visual Arts 7–10

Monday 11 March 2024 – Monday 8 April 2024: first draft syllabuses

  • Aboriginal Studies 7–10
  • Commerce 7–10

NESA Advice on Early Implementation of New Syllabuses 

NESA has recently released a new curriculum-related fact sheet that is intended to clarify for schools what is expected if schools choose to implement a new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase prior to the first year of mandatory implementation.

Changes to Syllabuses and Teaching and Learning Support Materials 

NESA continues to make changes to syllabus material on their digital curriculum site, along with the ongoing release of new syllabus support documents across all new K-12 syllabuses. Leaders and teachers are encouraged to check these regularly for changes and updates relevant to your specific learning areas and Stages. AISNSW Professional Learning – New Syllabuses 

Teaching and learning consultants at AISNSW have drawn widely upon requests from leaders and teachers within the independent sector to design a significant program of professional learning designed to support schools in the ongoing implementation of newly released syllabuses. New Drama Stage 6 Course Descriptions 2025-2027

Effective immediately, NESA has just released new course prescriptions for Drama Stage 6 for HSC 2025–2027. These are now available on the NESA website.

The timeline for implementation is as follows:

  • Term 1, 2024 - New Stage 6 course prescriptions available for planning and preparation in NSW schools
  • Term 4, 2024 - New Stage 6 course prescriptions implemented in schools
  • Term 4, 2025 – First HSC

 

Dance Stage 6 Course Prescriptions extended to HSC 2025

NESA has just advised that the Dance Stage 6 Course Prescriptions have been extended for one year to HSC 2025. You can read their official announcement here.
