Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions

The Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions describe common literacy and numeracy learning pathways for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. They have been developed by ACARA in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education and available on the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) website.

The NSW syllabuses remain the focus for planning, programming, teaching, learning and assessment in all NSW schools. NESA has mapped the National Literacy Learning Progression to the NSW English K–10 syllabus and the National Numeracy Learning Progression to the NSW Mathematics K–10 syllabus to demonstrate the range and level of literacy and numeracy skills required to access the outcomes and content.

PLAN2

PLAN2 is a NSW Department of Education tool for recording and analysing the information gathered on students’ literacy and numeracy development when using the learning progressions.

The learning progressions may also be accessed without PLAN2 via the NESA Website.
