The ERC was established in 2014 with the Head of SCEGGS, Jenny Allum, as the inaugural Chair.

Under Jenny's leadership, the ERC has helped to guide the commissioning of a range of valuable research which has enhanced the quality of independent school education. This work included research in the areas of Quality Learning and Teaching in Primary Science and Technology, Teacher Wellbeing and the evaluation of school-based research projects.

The Council has facilitated the funding of 23 school-based research projects, each addressing important topics and uncovering significant research findings.

Jenny has now taken over as the Chair of the AISNSW Advisory Council and this year concluded her role with the ERC.

On behalf of the AISNSW Board, I acknowledge the outstanding contribution Jenny has made to this important area of AISNSW’s work.

I am delighted to announce the new Chair of the ERC is Professor Mary Ryan, Dean of Education at Macquarie University. Professor Ryan is the president of the New South Wales Council of Deans of Education and a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

Professor Ryan is the recipient of a national citation for outstanding contributions to student learning. She is currently leading Australian Research Council funded projects in classroom writing and preparing reflexive teachers for diverse classrooms. Her research is in the areas of writing pedagogy and assessment, reflective writing, teachers’ work and professional learning, the enabling and constraining conditions for graduating students to manage the demands of their profession, and reflexive learning and practice.

We are delighted and privileged to have Mary as the new Chair of the AISNSW ERC.
