The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) national data collection is scheduled for Term 2 2024 (1 May – 5 July 2024).
What is the AEDC?
The AEDC is a population based measure of how children have developed by the time they start school. It looks at five areas of early childhood development that predict later health, wellbeing and academic success.
What is the school’s role in the AEDC data collection?
AEDC data collection requires kindergarten teachers to complete a survey for all the children in their classroom. It takes approximately 20 minutes for teachers to complete the survey per child. The Australian Government pays for teacher relief during the collection period to enable kindergarten teachers to complete the data collection.
What are the next steps?
In Term 1, Week 7, each school with a Kindergarten (Y1-1) will receive a School Leader Pack from the AEDC. This pack contains all the information your school needs to help plan for the upcoming AEDC data collection. For more information about key dates, refer to the AEDC 2024 calendar NSW.
