Release of draft English, Mathematics and History 11-12 syllabuses

Next Monday 23 October, NESA will be releasing the first draft of new syllabuses for all courses in English, Mathematics and History 11-12. These will be available for viewing on NESA’s consultation page from 23 October – 18 December.

AISNSW is keen to hear from all teachers of these subjects who would like to share their feedback about these drafts. This feedback will directly inform the submission that we provide to NESA on behalf of schools in the independent sector in NSW. Focus groups via Zoom will be held in the next few weeks; if you have not yet submitted your interest in taking part in one of these focus groups, please complete the applicable form(s) at the links below.

New Dance and Drama 7–10 syllabuses

NESA has just announced the release of the new Dance and Drama 7–10 syllabuses. These are now available for access on their digital curriculum site in the learning area of Creative Arts. 

Schools can plan and prepare to teach the new 7–10 syllabuses from 2024. The new syllabuses will be implemented in NSW schools in 2026.

Key features of the new syllabuses:

  • Clear concise language which identifies key concepts, knowledge and skills for all learners.
  • Developed using the latest evidence-based research.
  • Students develop their personal and social capability by working collaboratively with others to achieve individual and collective goals.
  • Revised content develops explicit understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Histories and Cultures.
  • Life Skills outcomes and content provide access for students with intellectual disability.
  • Dance 7–10 supports the physical, creative and intellectual development of students, providing the means for them to express and communicate ideas through dance.
  • Drama 7–10 supports the development of engaged, informed and innovative dramatic performance.

Schools have access to support materials including teaching advice on NSW Curriculum to assist with implementation. More resources will be made available over time including online, accredited professional development on NESA’s online learning hub.


Update on the draft Technology 7-8 syllabus webinar

On Monday 23 October from 4.00 – 5.00pm, NESA would like to invite all Technology teachers to an update on the Draft Technology 7–8 Syllabus.

The purpose of this meeting is to share refinements on the Draft Technology 7–8 syllabus after the recent ‘Have your say’ consultation.

AISNSW has recently released their online self-paced course Planning and programming with the new Mathematics 3-6 syllabus. Register to complete this four hour, NESA-accredited course.
