AISNSW and the Independent Schools Teacher Accreditation Authority (ISTAA) announce the introduction of Accomplished Teacher accreditation to support the implementation of the new CMEA.

Accomplished Teacher accreditation replaces Experienced Teacher accreditation, which is no longer available.

Accomplished Teacher accreditation is only available to teachers in Independent schools with an industrial agreement that includes ISTAA-accreditation at the level of Accomplished Teacher or the former Experienced Teacher.

The new Accomplished Teacher Accreditation Manual is now available for Principals, accreditation supervisors and prospective Accomplished Teacher applicants. The Manual outlines the policies and procedures for Accomplished Teacher accreditation, as well as providing guidance and advice.

What has changed with the introduction of Accomplished Teacher accreditation?

Updated timeframes - eligible applicants complete the accreditation process in a single calendar year. See the 2026 Key Information for Accomplished Teacher Accreditation document for 2026 dates.

Updated evidence requirements – new streamlined requirements for documentary evidence, reducing the amount of evidence teachers need to collate for submission. See the Accomplished Teacher Accreditation Manual (Section 9: Requirements for accreditation) for details.

What if my school’s industrial agreement still includes Experienced Teacher accreditation?

ISTAA has determined that Accomplished Teacher accreditation is equivalent to Experienced Teacher accreditation for the purpose of any industrial agreement that continues to include reference to Experienced Teacher accreditation through ISTAA.
