A revised Privacy Compliance Manual has been uploaded to the AISNSW website. The Manual has been revised to make it more accessible by re-ordering and updating the content and providing a more graphic presentation. The Manual is now presented in 5 parts for ease of reference:
- An overview of privacy regulation in schools,
- Data breach responses and procedures,
- Common privacy issues in schools (this section has been significantly updated),
- A detailed commentary on the Australian Privacy Principles, and
- Various annexures, templates, and policy documents. Some templates have been updated and improved.
It is suggested that all staff should be made aware of the content in Part A. Staff who are responsible for privacy such as the Privacy Officer, Business Manager, Head or Deputy Head, and School Counsellor should become familiar with the whole Manual.
There will be amendments to the Act later this year and it is anticipated that a new Act will be passed next year to take effect 12 months after it is passed. AISNSW will ensure that member schools are briefed as changes occur.
