On Thursday 7 March 2024, the Federal Government announced that from 1 July 2025, the Government will pay superannuation on the Commonwealth Paid Parental Leave (PPL) for eligible parents. Further details of this change will be provided in the May Budget.

Please note this change will not impact the 14 weeks of paid parental leave under the current Independent Schools Multi-Enterprise Agreements (MEAs). Accordingly, there is no requirement to pay superannuation on the entitlement set out in the MEAs.

On Monday 19 March 2024, the Paid Parental Leave Amendment (More Support for Working Families) Bill 2023 was passed by the Senate. This will now provide eligible parents from 1 July 2024 with an extra two weeks of leave (22 weeks in total) and will increase to 24 weeks from 1 July 2025, and 26 weeks from 1 July 2026.
