AISNSW has been advised that there will be power outages in parts of NSW due to planned critical maintenance work while students are learning from home and potentially while they are completing HSC Trial exams.
The following information should therefore be shared with your school community to minimise disruption during these times:
Check the relevant links below to find out if and when a power outage is planned in your area
If you have an upcoming power outage:
- ensure devices are fully charged beforehand
- prepare to use ‘hotspotting’ on a mobile phone as an alternative to wi-fi
- contact the relevant electricity distributor in your area if you need back-up power (contact details are provided below)
- contact your school to discuss any other possible alternatives
WHERE AND WHEN ARE OUTAGES HAPPENING?
- Sydney, Central Coast and parts of the Hunter
AusGrid is the electricity distributor responsible for the power network in these regions. Schools and households are advised to check AusGrid’s online list of planned outages and be prepared if an outage coincides with an exam time.
Although it is expected to be small in numbers, AusGrid is committed to working with schools, teachers and students to see if a back-up - such as a battery or generator - can be provided or other arrangements made. For more information, contact Ausgrid on 131 365 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Sydney’s greater west (from Granville to Mudgee), Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Illawarra and parts of the South Coast
Endeavour Energy is responsible for the power network in these regions and parts of the Bankstown, Hornsby and Ryde local government areas. Please check Essential’s network coverage map to see if your area is included.
Schools and households are advised to check Essential’s upcoming outage page information and be prepared if an outage coincides with an exam time. If you require further assistance - such as more information or back-up power - please call Endeavour Energy on 131 003.
Rest of New South Wales (including Upper Hunter and the Far-South Coast)
Essential Energy is responsible for the power network in the rest of NSW. Schools and households are advised to check Essential’s online list of planned outages and be prepared if an outage coincides with an exam time.
Essential has also developed a dedicated online form for affected HSC students or schools. Students or schools are asked to complete this form as soon as they become aware of a planned outage impacting a trial exam or during the HSC exams. Submitting this form to Essential Energy will give it the information it needs to assist students during an outage. Should a student be affected, Essential Energy will strive to work with the student or school to minimise impacts of the planned power outage.
All electricity distributors have also said they will attempt to notify customers prior to a planned outage by SMS (where the customer has provided a mobile number) or by mail.
