The AISNSW Conversation Series Part 4 discusses how to enhance learning with mobile devices in the classroom or when learning from home using a framework based on personalisation, authenticity and collaboration.

The AISNSW Conversation Series Exploring Digital Pedagogies: The Role of the iPAC Framework has been released. The video and accompanying resources feature an engaging and easily accessible conversation between Dr Rachel Perry, Research Specialist, The Evidence Institute, Billie Trkulja, AISNSW Teaching and Learning Consultant and Associate Professor Matthew Kearney from the School of International Studies and Education at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Together the educators explore the iPAC Framework, which can support the design of meaningful and authentic learning for when students are using a mobile device.

The focus of this latest conversation offers a way to continue centralising pedagogy to enhance student engagement by maximising the opportunities the use of mobile devices can offer. The conversation's emphasis on personalisation, authenticity and collaboration (PAC), is relevant for teachers of both primary and secondary students.

"At the heart of it is good pedagogy, good ways of designing learning and effective ways of designing learning that engages with the needs of different students," said The Evidence Institute's Dr Rachel Perry.

With the prevalence of laptops and the use of mobile devices such as iPads, the iPAC Framework supports the design of learning experiences irrespective of the location or the Stage of learning. This can provide for students greater autonomy, independence and agency over their own learning.

"At the heart of it is good pedagogy, good ways of designing learning and effective ways of designing learning that engages with the needs of different students."

"A lot of schools are using mobile devices in some way and this conversation is around maximising the opportunities that those mobile devices can play in the learning of young people to make it personalised, more authentic, and more collaborative," Dr Perry said.

The iPAC Framework supports the design of learning experiences irrespective of the location.

"By using a framework like iPAC, you’re going to help engage students more actively in their learning and give them ownership over the learning process. At the same time, there are opportunities for building deeper relationships with the students because it opens a different kind of dialogue about their learning – what they understand and how they understand it.

"This allows all educators to further tailor the learning to support students or extend them in that moment rather than doing that retrospectively."

Exploring Digital Pedagogies: The Role of the iPAC Framework follows the same format as the original three-piece series. It features a short video and information sheet and the opportunity to register for no-cost accredited professional learning.
