AISNSW is delighted to announce Billy Savvidis as the recipient of the prestigious AISNSW Teacher Education Scholarship for 2025.
Billy is a Secondary Education student at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) with a major in Visual Arts and minors in Mathematics and Religious Education. He embodies the commitment and passion this scholarship seeks to foster in future educators.

As part of this scholarship, Billy will undertake a dynamic, hands-on experience at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview, where he will be employed for a minimum of 12 months, working at least one day per week during Terms 1 to 3, and four days per week in Term 4. This placement will provide Billy with invaluable teaching experience, allowing him to further develop his teaching practice in a supportive, professional environment.
Billy demonstrates a strong foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching. Throughout his tertiary studies, he has excelled academically and gained extensive tutoring experience, where he tailors weekly lessons to each student’s needs in Mathematics and Religious Education. These experiences have allowed him to seamlessly blend the knowledge gained from his degree with real-world teaching, a skill he aims to continue refining through this scholarship.
A mentor from Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview will guide Billy throughout his journey, having completed the Being an Effective Mentor course to ensure they are equipped to support him effectively. This mentorship will enable Billy to receive constructive feedback, foster his reflective teaching practice, and navigate the diverse classroom environments he will encounter.
"I believe that education is a transformative journey, one that nurtures students academically, socially, and emotionally," Billy shared in his application. "I'm committed to contributing to the Independent school community, bringing my skills in Visual Arts, Mathematics, and Religious Education, along with a passion for co-curricular activities like art clubs, math competitions, and community initiatives."
AISNSW congratulates Billy on this achievement and looks forward to observing his contributions to the Independent sector, helping to shape the next generation through dedicated and reflective teaching.
