School Risk Assessment

Different types of School Risk Assessments are carried out in schools to assist the school to comply with relevant legislation. Information provided in this section relates to the planning process undertaken for an individual student to identify and mitigate risks considered over and above the level of risk typically expected within specific school situations and contexts.  This may include risks associated with a student’s behaviour, their social and emotional needs, wellbeing or health care needs.

The steps involved in undertaking a School Risk Assessment differ slightly to the collaborative planning process. The outcome of a School Risk Assessment may be used to inform further planning such as the strategies documented in an Individual Plan, Behaviour Support Plan and/or Health Support Plan.
