Teacher Accreditation

AISNSW and the Independent school sector values quality teaching and recognises the importance of professional growth and development in improving outcomes for students.

Teacher accreditation provides a nationwide framework defining the standard of practice in the teaching profession to ensure the quality of teaching in our schools. All NSW teachers delivering NESA curriculum are required to be accredited by NESA. There is an additional level of accreditation available to teachers in Independent schools called Accomplished Teacher accreditation.

Accreditation provides a basis for ongoing growth and development of teachers to raise the outcomes of education for students. The Professional Teaching Standards define the qualities of effective teaching. They describe the knowledge, skills and practices expected of teachers at different stages of their careers, and provide a framework for critical reflection, professional development and growth.

AISNSW established the Independent Schools Teacher Accreditation Authority (ISTAA) to promote quality teaching in the Independent education sector. AISNSW offers Accomplished Teacher accreditation on behalf of ISTAA as a voluntary level of accreditation, exclusively available to educators in Independent schools. Accomplished Teacher accreditation provides an additional framework for teacher growth and means for industry recognition within the sector of teacher expertise and practice beyond the level of proficiency and to an Accomplished Teacher Standard.

AISNSW can assist schools to meet the requirements for teacher accreditation in their school at all levels of accreditation, including:

  • the AISNSW Proficient Teacher Accreditation Service, available to all member schools enabling a member school to access the expertise of an AISNSW consultant to act as the Accreditation Supervisor for individual teachers in the school
  • the Accomplished Teacher accreditation process
  • professional learning and bespoke consultancies for schools at all levels of accreditation including HALT.
