Sector ICT Advocacy

Independent schools rely heavily on industry partnerships to provide an impactful ICT service offering for their communities.

Whilst we value the independence of every Independent school there are times when AISNSW can add value to advocate for the needs of the sector.

In our advocacy role, we seek to work with members of the community to:

  • explain the diversity and make-up of our sector
  • describe why engagement with a sector is fundamentally different to a system
  • collaborate on the best way to position a product or service in the sector
  • represent the unique circumstances of every Independent school
  • provide insights into the services AISNSW offers
  • represent the needs of Independent schools and how they might best adopt initiatives.

AISNSW also supports Independent Schools Australia (ISA) in their representation of the sector through involvement on relevant committees and groups. This helps ensure that the sector’s interests are understood and considered, as policies are formed which may impact the operations and success of Independent schools. For example, our CIO is invited by ISA to attend the National Digital Education Advisory Group (NEDAG) to provide representation in relation to ICT matters. An example of the output from this group is the Safer Tech 4 Schools initiative.

AISNSW facilitates a Technology Consultative Group to guide us in our advocacy work. We meet once each term. Members of the broader community are welcome to submit agenda items for consideration to AISNSW or any of the committee members for recommendation to the committee.

Whilst much of this advocacy work happens in the background, from time-to-time AISNSW will seek to convene an online meeting with the community in relation to a particular opportunity, issue or challenge. In this work, AISNSW may seek to partner with other AIS or industry groups including the Managers of IT in Education community (MITIE) or Victorian ICT Network for Education (VINE).

When appropriate, these meetings and relevant artefacts are shared on this page for community access. Please contact AISNSW for further information please use the Contact Us Form and select ICT Services to submit your enquiry to AISNSW.

Broadcom’s VMWare Update

AISNSW has been advocating for the needs of Independent schools since March 2024 to access educational pricing for a commonly adopted product known as VMWare. Broadcom, recently acquired VMWare. AISNSW activities revealed that Broadcom pricing would no longer include a discounted education offer. AISNSW sought to invite the community (schools and resellers who resell VMWare) to join a video meeting with Broadcom.

The intent was to introduce their new approach as well as their new pricing model to allow Independent schools the opportunity to understand the new model, provide feedback and make adjustments to their forecast budgets. Members of the community may access the recording and presentation slides.
