Primary Numeracy

The Primary Numeracy Project is a comprehensive professional learning package designed to support schools with the explicit and systematic teaching of numeracy skills.

Target Audience: All K-6 staff including learning support and executive staff

Timeframe: Components are distributed over one school year.

Schools interested in learning more about the Primary Numeracy Project can complete an expression of interest.

How Does the Project Work?

During this one-year project, schools access a range of resources and expertise from AISNSW numeracy consultants. The Primary Numeracy Project components have been structured as follows:

Professional Learning has two components:

- school-based professional learning which takes place over 8 sessions, each of 1.5 hours

- eight online self-paced learning modules, each 30 minutes in duration

Consultancy Support is provided throughout the duration of the project. An AISNSW consultant works with executive and teachers to help improve their practice by modelling instructional strategies, observing lessons in the K-6 classrooms, providing feedback and collaboratively planning lessons.

Administration of the Early Numeracy Screening Tool (K-2) and the Years 3-6 Numeracy Screening Tool at three critical points throughout the school year.

A Parent Workshop focused on supporting the development of numeracy skills can be arranged at a time convenient to the school.
