NESA Boarding Requirements

Inspection Resources and Services

The AISNSW Regulation Team can support member boarding schools with their self-assurance processes to address NESA’s school registration boarding requirements.

Member schools can access this support at any time in their school’s 5-year registration period or as part of the school’s preparation for renewal of registration.

AISNSW support to help member boarding schools with their self-assurance processes includes:

  1. AISNSW Tool for a self-review with NESA’s boarding registration requirements
  2. Boarding Review by AISNSW Regulation Team consultants.

All support provided by the Regulation Team is included in a school’s AISNSW membership fee.

1. AISNSW Tool for a self-review of NESA’s boarding registration requirements

This 2-step tool guides school staff through a self-review of boarding documentation.

Step One is a high-level review to identify what documents include boarding information.

It helps staff develop a broad understanding of where boarding policies and procedures overlap with the day school and where boarding documents are separate. It’s an important first step in preparation for the gap analysis in Step Two of the review, so all documents that include the school’s boarding information are reviewed.

Step Two is a gap analysis tool. It supports school staff to conduct a detailed gap analysis of the contents of boarding policies, procedures and documents through the specific lens of compliance with NESA’s boarding registration requirement B10 from the NSW Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools Manual.

Member schools can find this resource in the AISNSW Resource Centre or obtain it by contacting a Regulation Team consultant on (02) 9299 28445.

2. Boarding Review by AISNSW Regulation Team consultant

AISNSW Regulation Team consultants can complete a review of your school’s boarding documentation for school registration. This can be completed at your school or via a desk review. Feedback is provided to the principal directly and in report format.

Process

A dedicated Regulation Team consultant will be allocated to your school. The consultant will:

  • Liaise with the Head/Director of Boarding.
  • Establish the review process and time frame.
  • Identify what school preparation is required prior to the review, including:
    - the completion of a high-level self-review using an AISNSW tool provided by the consultant
    - the Head/Director of Boarding providing all boarding documentation to the AISNSW consultant.
  • Complete the review.
  • Provide a verbal report to the Principal and follow up with a written report.
