Framework of Behaviour Support and Student Engagement


Students present with diverse needs and require support in different ways across all aspects of school life. Support provided by AISNSW aims to build capacity in schools to develop and sustain equitable multi-level systems of support to ensure academic and social-emotional success.

Service Options 

Three service offerings form part of an overarching focus on behaviour support and student engagement.

Schools identify problematic behaviours as well as behaviours that are challenging the school staff and that interfere with academic and social success which may relate to a cohort of students, a small group of students or an individual student. The best match of the most appropriate service offering is then determined in collaboration with the Student Services Education Consultants.

Components:

  • Online professional learning
  • Access to resources including downloadable fact sheets and planning proformas
  • School-based consultancy support


Timeframe:

  • Online learning and resources accessible, anywhere anytime
  • School-based consultancy support negotiated as needed.

Audience:

  • Class teacher/s of student
  • Principal/executive staff
  • Learning Support and specialist staff (as appropriate)

Components:

  • School-based professional learning


Timeframe:

  • One full day professional learning, or
  • The equivalent of one full day divided into shorter sessions and distributed over time.

Audience:

  • Class teachers K-6 and 7-12 with emphasis on beginning/early career teachers
  • Principal/executive staff
  • Learning Support and specialist staff (as appropriate)

Components:

  • School-based consultancy support
  • Professional learning


Timeframe:

  • Typically a three year engagement

Audience:

  • All school staff, including:
    - Principal/executive staff
    - Class teachers K-6 and 7-12
    - Learning Support and specialist staff (as appropriate)

School team is established consisting of various members of staff to lead implementation at the school.
